I'm going to be facilitating a 4-hour session with a group of 15 folks to develop a mission statement for their department and am looking for some fresh approaches.
I'm working with a small, grassroots nonprofit, that is trying to determine the direction for a major project and how to execute it. They are pretty informal and have not done intentional strategic planning among the current members.
We just had our first session, which focused on clarifying their mission and core constituents, and got a lot of good information. For our next session, we'd like to move from their mission to their strategy (for both programmatic and financial sustainability, and how the two intersect).
I am looking for suggestions on activities or frameworks that you would recommend for aligning their mission and strategy, or exercises to help move them into a strategy discussion to help them make decisions on what to focus on, or scenario planning. We're looking for activities that could be accomplished in a fairly short time-frame.
