What does it take for a whole ecosystem of actors to learn together how to achieve a challenging goal?
Emergent Learning is being used by practitioners around the world to remake how organizations think about learning in complex environments. People often think of “learning” as a product to deliver or as a one-off event. Emergent Learning is a habit — a way of expanding our collective thinking in order to grow our ability to achieve the results to which we aspire.
In this session, we will use the attached cultural assessment tool to help us explore the learning cultures of our own or client teams or organizations. (You can read the definitions on pages 2-3 to get a head start in understanding the terms we will be using.) Participants will leave with a basic understanding of what Emergent Learning is, a tool for exploring the learning cultures they work with and within, and resources to explore on their own to learn about the principles and practices of Emergent Learning.
Presenter bio Marilyn Darling pioneered the field of Emergent Learning (EL), first in her work with Fortune 500 corporations and then working in the social sector. She is co-director of the Emergent Learning Community Project, where she stewards a global community of EL practitioners. She is currently working with over 60 members of the EL Community to complete a Guide to the Principles of Emergent Learning.
