USING EXPERIENCE TO DEVELOP LEADERS
For many years, the most popular approach to the development of leader capabilities has been formal development programs.  In response to the pandemic, organizations have delayed or rescheduled programs, reduced development budgets, and revamped program designs to accommodate virtual delivery.  Yet, the same basic approach persists for many organizations continuing to invest in the development of leaders.
While programs represent one important element of a holistic leadership development strategy, traditional approaches tend to ignore the reality that a vast majority of a leader’s development comes from experience.  All too often we miss the opportunity to use experience to really drive development.
This session will identify ways organizations can be more intentional about developing leaders through experience—including five practices to put experience at the center of development—and engage you in an exploration of how you can apply experience-based leadership development practices in your own organizations or with your clients.
