Details
Consultants, like leaders, need to understand the social systems and organizational relationships in order to address organizational challenges.  At the same time that you help leaders develop their “reframing” skills - the ability to see things through multiple lenses, you yourself need those skills in order to help them understand what’s going on in their system.  This workshop, which is based on the highly-regarded book “Reframing Organizations: Artistry, Choice and Leadership”, will pursue this question:  How can you make sense of the organizational contexts in which you work so that you can become a better consultant and/or leader?

The session will be organized around Bolman & Deal’s four-frame model of organizations and leadership, which explores structure, people, politics and symbols.  Using those 4 frames, or lenses, will give you, and leaders, a more complete picture of the situation, which will likely enable you to see more options for action.  This model can be applied in the context of change management, culture change, leadership, management, decision making and strategy development.

We will use a self-rating instrument to help you identify your preferred frame.  You’ll also have the chance to apply the model to a challenge that you’re facing, in your own or your client’s organization (with appropriate confidentiality).  Please let us know in advance if you have a challenge, so that we make sure every breakout group has someone with a case to work on.
