Details
This collaborative learning session will ground participants in the essential start-up phase of the client-consultant relationship, whether it's an external or internal client.  We’ll explore the issues requiring consultant intervention such as clarifying expectations, determining who the client is, assessing the fit, negotiating the contract, articulating roles and responsibilities, and defining the process. It includes a focus on ethics, values and use of Self.  The outcome of the start-up phase is a solid client-consultant relationship, a mutually agreed to written contract, and a foundation for the remaining phases of the engagement.  If you’re new to consulting, this will provide you with a process and some tools.  If you’re a seasoned practitioner, it will be an opportunity to reflect and refresh your practice.

Takeaways

  • Understand the elements of the Start-Up phase.
  • Surface and explore dynamics that can help and hinder an effective start-up.
  • Learn a process and leave with a few more tools and strategies.
  • Heighten awareness of own practice by applying to a case in collaborative learning groups.
  • Explore possible ethical dilemmas and strategies to address them.
