Session Description

Today’s business professionals work in complex, demanding and resource-constrained environments. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts as OD practitioners, established leadership practices continue to assume organizations operate like machines, and that change can be planned and executed by leaders at the top. Although these approaches may have served them well in the past, there is an urgent need to introduce change practices more suited to present-day realities.

The challenge, as OD professionals have long known, is to help leaders shake off traditional mental models and learn more effective approaches that foster self-organization, innovation and emergent change. In concert with this, OD practitioners must “tune up” their own consciousness and diagnostic skills, understanding that the “self” (their ability to listen and bring awareness to a situation) may be the most powerful instrument they have to offer in helping their clients navigate rapid, dynamic change.

This interactive workshop offers fresh perspectives and approaches to OD consulting for the 21st century. We invite you to join us to explore new practices, refresh our skills as OD professionals, and share our collective experiences and successes. More specifically, during the workshop, we will:
  • Explore how different worldviews impact our approaches to organizations and change initiatives.
  • Learn a flexible 21st century consulting model that improves diagnostic capability by developing the “self” as the instrument of change.
  • Experiment with an Adaptive Systems Discovery tool for enabling emergence and self-organization.
  • Create a safe practice field to apply the consulting model and discovery tool to real business issues.
