TEAM DEVELOPMENT TOOLKIT: “SHIFT POV” (Point of View)
Kym Dakin Neal will present a team-based card game called ShiftPOV - Point of View, whose purpose is to reframe those entrenched, difficult conversations and interactions, so that a team can begin to productively work together. Afterwards, participants will share team development resources in small groups.
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM Eastern
Constant Contact Reservoir Place, 1601 Trapelo Road just off Route 128 Waltham, MA 02451
Kym has created a team-building card game called ShiftPOV (Point of View), whose purpose is to reframe those entrenched, difficult conversations and interactions, so that a team can begin to productively work together. Inspired by Chip and Dan Heath's ideas in "Switch", Shift/POV incorporates the experiential benefits of role play and improvisational elements with deep listening and strictly timed discussion rounds for an opportunity to test how well we listen to opposing points of view and to explore our habitual group behaviors.
We will also learn from participants specific tools and models that have proven effective in their work. Some scenarios that we think BFR members might be interested include the following:
New boss joins an existing team
There are known problems in the operation of the team, what would you do? where in the current operations of this team do we need to pay attention?
One person on the team is a problem person – how do you handle that?
A new team is formed of members who are only vaguely familiar with each other.
An existing team is given an entirely new, ‘stretch’ mandate
